This cartoon absolutely “rocks.” It comes from a fun blog called “the Ongoing Adventures of ABSO Jesus.” Enjoy!
While pondering the above images and ideas, this blogpost on the Good Samaritan by Alan Knox is well worth reading, too.

Yup .. when life’s troubles get overwhelming, ain’t nobody’s rule book gonna come sit with you. And folks who love you and are moved to action, by your plight, are a WHOLE LOT better than folks with gritted teeth who come see you on a guilt trip, sent by a legalistic gathering.

So according to the image, we should not build our “house” on doctrine?
huh?
So I guess you would disagree with this passage from 1 Tim 6:3-4
“If anyone ?a?advocates a different doctrine and does not ?1?agree with ?sound words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, and with the doctrine ?conforming to godliness,
4 he is ?a?conceited and understands nothing; but he ??has a morbid interest in ?controversial questions and ?disputes about words, out of which arise envy, strife, abusive language, evil suspicions”
And this passage from Titus 1:9 that encourages the teaching of sound doctrine would be in error?
“holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in ??sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. ”

Not at all, J.R.. I’d just ask you to define sound doctrine. What is sound doctrine? The point of the cartoon really is about what most people think of as “doctrine.” It’s not really about doctrine as Paul wrote about.
Read back over any post of mine at all and ask about my commitment to scripture.
Here’s a few posts I’ve written in the past about “doctrine,” too.
Why Do We Think Doctrine Means Various Ologies?
Just some food for thought….

I understand the intent of the cartoon, and I also understand that most people think ALL doctrine is bad, when in fact it is not. The cartoon is reinforces a misunderstanding of doctrine, and I don’t think that is helpful.
That being said, I appreciate your clarification and for the links. I will check them out.

Scripture says you’re on the wrong track. Scripturally (reread the Matthew chapter) we are to obey Christ. The rock is obedience to Christ (which includes doctrine - your actions stem from your belief and your lifestyle follows). As for me and my house we will serve the Lord. You’re missing some major steps in your understanding of God. The church is about worshipping and glorifying God - not about you and your relationships and/or your self centered feelings about being there and how nice the music is and the people are to you or how accepting you are of things that disagree with Scripture. You’re on dangerous ground.
