It Starts Early

What do we teach every child about Jesus???

Jesus loves me
This I know
For the Bible tells me so…

Is the bible the only way to know Jesus loves us? Does He speak? Does He expect us to walk with and talk with Him? Can we have intimacy with a real person or are we stuck with a bunch of words and cold, hard pages? Do we really mean anything when we throw out the words “have a personal relationship with Jesus” or do we really just want people to be good students of a book?

i said something along these lines in my theology class recently. we were talking about special revelation. i wondered why people were so dead agains tthe idea of God interacting with us in other ways than just the bible, ways that even the bible mentions. i was quickly labeled a heretic and false prophet and it was explained to me that i would be stoned if i were to give a false prophecy according to OT law and i was also asked what God’s voice sounded like. remind me never to bring that up again. nice post.

Dan, if you go back to my March archives and read posts like http://charisshalom.fjministries.com/2007/03/15/boo-are-we-scared-of-the-holy-ghost/ you will see that I received some similar comments.

People would rather use their brain than trust the Holy Spirit. It’s easier. It also keeps control where we like it: with me. I should have noted this Boo post in my Halloween post!
