The Way?

The below post was written by John Smulo, of Smulo Space. In his post, entitled “Be Like Jesus,” which I would encourage you to go check out here, he links to each of the passages of scripture from which he created this list. I link to John’s blog in my blogroll; it is well worth a daily read.

Anyway, here is John’s rendition of how to be like Jesus…

1. Get baptized by the craziest guy in town.

2. Say and do things that are guaranteed to make religious people want to kill you. Repeat again, and again, and again, and again, and again—don’t stop unless forced.

3. Do amazing things for people and ask them to not tell anyone.

4. Hang out with the most despised, marginalized, looked down upon, and shunned people you can find.

5. When possible, forgive and restore people, even if they betrayed you.

6. Live in a way that provokes gossip.

7. Win the most grace competition.

8. Keep the party going.

9. Serve people (note: nose plugs may be required).

10. If you’re sad cry.

11. Empower people to do the extraordinary.

12. Act like a rock star in a hotel temple.

13. Radically simplify theology.

14.Break human-made religious laws. Repeat consistently.

15.Prioritize the most important over the important.

16. Let women with “questionable” backgrounds pay your bills.

If you are unsure of the scriptural basis for any of these, just go check out Smulo Space at the link above.

Don’t forget things like play with children, get away from the crowd or say things that will be hard for the crowd to stomach just when your audience’s numbers are starting to really take off, tell the rich guy to give all his money away to the poor (not to your own ministry) and constantly pray.

Thanks for mentioning this, and for your great additions!

This is an absolutely great post, and I think would do well to be in almost any group of Christ followers.

Thanks!

Ut In Omnibus Glorificetur Dei
In all things may God be glorified

Make sure and let Smulo know! :) Thanks for stopping by. Gosh, get a new visitor and they love someone else’s post. :) But, that is what we are to be about… not pointing to ourselves, but to God’s glory, regardless of what it means for our own.

Yes, Ut In Omnibus Glorificetur Dei

Hi, MIT. Are you also a student of Latin? I’m bracing myself for tomorrow’s irregular verbs
( moan).

Bryan, re the last bit, why on earth would a god pray? That is, if you believe that Jesus was a god?

Because He was showing us the Way. Jesus lived the most dynamic life of any human (although fully God as well…interesting faith, eh?) because He lived the most dependent life. The Way shows us that we are dependent on God and that real life comes from living dependently rather than independently. Jesus set the example for us.

Makes you wonder if Jesus himself would be considered a Southern Baptist doesn’t it? :) To be honest, the list above is the reason why I love Him so.
